HTC might have screwed things up even more for the One M9

Back when Corning introduced the Gorilla Glass 4, it said that the new standard offered double the protection compared to its predecessor, Gorilla Glass 3.

Since display breakage is a common occurrence among handset units, having a phone with Gorilla Glass 4 sounds a lot safer than having one with Gorilla Glass 3.

Which brings us to the issue related to HTC One M9, which was said to arrive with Gorilla Glass 4 out of the box. As it turns out, things aren’t so straightforward as it was initially thought.

Serial leakster @upleaks claims that only select batches of the One M9 come with Corning’s new standard on board, and there are other units that only offer the services of Gorilla Glass 3.

It wouldn’t be the first time one expects to see a device arrive with certain specifications only to find out that’s not the case.

A few days ago, word broke that Samsung was shipping some units of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge with its homegrown ISOCELL camera sensor instead of the Sony IMX240. The reason behind this is that Samsung was faced with a shortage of Sony sensors, which might sound forgivable.

But we’re pretty sure HTC One M9 customers wouldn't be too happy to learn their unit is from the unlucky bunch coming with Gorilla Glass 3.
