The update also brings battery filters, more new features

One of the most popular instant messengers for mobile devices, Snapchat, has just received an important update on both Android and iOS platforms.

First of all, developers have added some extra security features that are meant to further protect Snapchat users from prying eyes.

The new update brings Login Verification, which allows users to tell the application to send an SMS code when they log into Snapchat on a new device. You can enable this Login Verification feature from the Settings tab in the application's menu.

Another new feature introduced with the latest update allows Snapchat users to double-tap the screen while recording a Snap to switch between the selfie and rear-facing cameras.

Last but not least, the update brings battery filters (they add a little something to your Snaps when you’re all juiced up or low on battery).

You can now download Snapchat for Android 9.9.0 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.

iOS users can now download Snapchat via App Store. The application should work smoothly on all devices running iOS 7.0 or later.

Keep in mind that, even though Snaps, Chats, and Stories are deleted from Snapchat's servers after they expire, devs can't prevent recipients from capturing and saving the message by taking a screenshot or using an image capture device.
