If you thought that the quad-core processors in today’s smartphones or the upcoming 8-core CPU from Samsung that might make it inside Galaxy S IV are impressive, you should wait a few years more to see what’s coming to mobiles, ARM’s president suggests.

According to him, based on the latest advancements in technology, a smartphone packing a 16 or 32-core processor could become reality in a couple of years.

Given that quad-core processors inside smartphones seemed farfetched a few years ago, and 8-core CPUs are already a reality today, it is possible to transition to more cores inside these mobile platforms.

“But with, you know... technology always gets cheaper, and it's amazing what can be done, and MediaTek have demonstrated that. So overtime I'm sure you'll see more and more cores,” Simon Segars, the president of ARM, told Engadget.
