Mobile phone maker Samsung is reportedly planning on bringing the open Tizen and Firefox OSes together, so as to come up with a better competitor for iOS and Android platforms.

According to a post on zdnet.co.kr, the Chief Secretary of Samsung Electronics said at the Conference for establishing HTML5 Fusion Technique forum in Seoul this week that the two platforms should establish a relationship.

Tizen OS, developed by Samsung in collaboration with Intel, is an open source OS that could power future high-end devices from the South Korean vendor. No smartphones running the platform have been launched as of now.

Firefox OS, on the other hand, has been designed by Mozilla as an option for low-end smartphones, and is already available on devices in Latin America and various European countries.

Both platforms use HTML5-based apps, which would allow developers to target both of them with their applications.
