Samsung Still Top Phone Maker in the US in November 2012

Google’s Android operating system gained more market share

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung managed to consolidate its leading position on the mobile phone market in the United States, comScore reports.

The company accounted for 26.9 percent of all mobile subscribers in the country in the three months ended November 2012, up 1.2 percentage points from the previous period.

Apple was second in the timeframe, with 18.5 percent market share, while LG Electronics was placed third, with 17.5 percent market share, down from 18.2 percent at the end of August 2012.

The research firm also notes that Google’s Android operating system gained 1.1 percentage points in the September – November 2012 timeframe, accounting for 53.7 percent of smartphones in the US.

Apple’s iOS was loaded on 35 percent of handsets, while Research In Motion’s BlackBerry platform remained on the third place with 7.3 percent market share.
