Samsung’s presence on the Chinese market is expanding, with over 12.5 million smartphones from the company said to have been sold in the country during the first quarter of the year.

The info comes from Strategy Analytics (via KoreaHerald), which confirmed that Samsung’s market share in China was of 18.5 percent in the aforementioned time frame, up 2.2 percentage points when compared to the previous quarter.

Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei ended Q1 2013 on the second position in its homeland market, with 8.1 million devices sold. Lenovo, another Chinese handset vendor, was placed third with 7.9 million units.

Overall, 67.4 million smartphones were sold in China in between January and March this year, the research firm also announced. Apple managed to sell 6.1 million iPhone devices in China during the timeframe, and was placed sixth.
