Samsung’s smartphone dominion is faltering

As Samsung is getting ready to unveil its heavily anticipated Galaxy S6 flagships, we bring you a bit of discouraging news.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung’s smartphone marketshare hit rock bottom in Q4 2014 when the company only managed to snatch 10% of global phone shipments (as seen at Business Korea).

By contrast, Apple made an impressive jump grabbing 48.9% during the same period outlined above. Still, in terms of revenue Samsung took hold of 17.2% shares.

According to the report, Samsung was overthrown by Apple even in terms of annual share, as Cupertino scored 37.6% while Samsung only managed to grab 25.1%.

These results can be explained due to the fact that Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which despite concerns, proved to be quite popular with consumers.

Samsung is also getting ready to launch its own flagship device, which like the iPhone, will come in two flavors, the normal variant and the dual curved edge model.

People are expecting a lot from Samsung this year, and according to the rumor mill, the Korean tech giant will actually be able to rise up to expectations, bringing into the picture a phone with a metal build, redesigned TouchWiz interface and a lot of other goodies.

Can Samsung catch up?
