South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics was present on the floor at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week with a foldable display in its pocket, and it also showcased it behind closed doors, it seems.
According to a recent report from ETNews, the company showed a 5.68-inch foldable AMOLED display to a few people, and it also confirmed that it was ready to kick off mass production for it.
The panel is said to sport a film-like polyamide substrate, which ensures that the screen won’t deteriorate the image quality at the point of folding, as SamMobile notes.
Moreover, the new 5.68-inch prototype screen is said to be the first to come with a touch-sensitive panel that has been applied using metal mesh technology, aimed at allowing it to recognize pen input even without a dedicated chip.
No info on when devices featuring this screen might arrive on the market has been provided, but chances are that we won’t see them on shelves this year.
