Samsung is the largest maker of Android-based devices in the world, there’s no doubt about it, and the latest reports on the matter confirm that.

The company has managed to climb to the top of the smartphone market with its Galaxy handsets and is currently said to account for around 65 percent of all Android smartphones out there, a new report coming from DigiTimes reads.

The figure is even more impressive when compared to what other versions are enjoying at the moment, as LG Electronics, said to be the second largest Android vendor out there, has a market share of only 7 percent.

HTC, Sony and Motorola follow it, with 6, 5 and 4 percent market share, respectively, though it might not be too long before things change in this area, it seems.

According to said report, Lenovo could soon become the second largest Android smartphone maker, courtesy of the already announced acquisition of Motorola Mobility from Google.

At the moment, Lenovo is one of the top brands in China and other emerging markets out there, while Motorola is seen as a leading vendor in the United States and Europe, and their combined market presence is expected to help the Chinese vendor grow fast.

However, it remains to be seen how the company will take advantage of this, as rival companies are getting ready for the release of new, powerful devices in the coming weeks / months.
