One month after an Android 4.4.2 KitKat test build for AT&T Galaxy S4 leaked online, the US-based carrier announces the immediate availability of the highly anticipated upgrade.

Effective February 26, Samsung Galaxy S4 users should start receiving the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update on their devices. However, according to AT&T, this is a staged rollout, so not all Galaxy S4 owners will be able to download the upgrade at the same time.

Still, those who have yet to be notified of the update should manually check for it by going to Settings / About device / Software update / Check for updates. If Android 4.4.2 KitKat doesn’t show on your screen, you might want to check back later.

Aside from moving the software version to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the update also brings Samsung Galaxy Gear compatibility, along with some call reliability improvements and the option to drag and drop to uninstall or disable applications.

Keep in mind that the update should not delete any of the data stored on the Galaxy S4, but it’s recommended to back up all media files to an SD card or PC, prior to upgrading to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. We also suggest downloading the update via Wi-Fi for a much smoother upgrading experience.
