The Galaxy Alpha smartphone was Samsung’s first attempt at bringing metal into their device-building equation and people loved it.

The device originally shipped with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, but the good news now is that, according to Sam Mobile, Samsung has finally started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the handset.

The phone is reportedly getting Android 5.0.2 in South Korea and the update is rolling out over the air (OTA), as well as through the company’s own Kies software utility.

The update is probably being offered in stages, so it might take a few days before we see the new build arrive in other territories. It could take a few days or maybe even weeks, so you should be patient.

Earlier today, we also told you that the Samsung Galaxy A3 started getting the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update, but the software is only available in Russia for the time being.

The new update brings about performance and stability-related improvements and a better battery life. However, you shouldn’t get your hopes up thinking that the latest version of TouchWiz, which is characteristic of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, will arrive on the Galaxy Alpha, as that’s not the case.
