South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has reportedly managed to sell a great deal of smartphones in the first quarter of the year, and is expected to announce record shipment volumes for the timeframe.

To be more precise, the company managed to sell around 25 million devices per month this quarter, which would sum up to over 70 million units sold worldwide, Yonhap News reports, citing Hong Kong-based analyst firm Counterpoint Research.

Although the first quarter is usually affected by slow seasonally demand, the handset vendor managed to strengthen its leading position on the smartphone market, and might grow even more in the second quarter, when the new Galaxy S 4 arrives on shelves.

Samsung’s smartphone lineup includes mainly Android devices, which helped it gain the top position in this market segment over the past few years. It also sells Windows Phone and Bada handsets.
