These smartphones will not receive any further software upgrades

Bad news for Sony fans who own older Xperia smartphones and were expecting more software updates like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean, as the Japanese company has just announced the list of devices that have reached end of life (EOL) status.

As XperiaBlog points out, some of these smartphones are at least 18 months old, so Sony’s decision to drop support for them in order to focus on their new devices is somewhat understandable. Obviously, these forces lots of Sony Xperia owners to switch to new devices, which is not that simple for some.

Anyway, here is the list of smartphones that will not receive any further software upgrade support: Xperia arc S, Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion, Xperia acro S, Xperia go, Xperia P, Xperia J, Xperia miro, Xperia sola, Xperia tipo and Xperia U.

Sony has also confirmed which version of Android these smartphones will be left with, so that owners can decide whether it is worth upgrading to a new Xperia handset. Check out Sony’s support website for details on your phone’s software update status.
