One of the first mapping and navigation apps launched on mobile phones, ROUTE 66 has just achieved 1 million downloads in the Google Play store.

These estimates are based on AppBrain Starts and puts ROUTE 66 Maps + Navigation application in the top 1% of all Google Play downloads by volume.

According to developers, the application was mostly downloaded on Samsung Galaxy S II devices, but the number of downloads to Galaxy S III is increasing fast and might surpass the former in the following weeks.

We are extremely pleased with the take-up of our solution on Google Play - our navigation applications are designed for a range of devices, but downloads on Android have exceeded all our expectations,” said Job van Dijk, ROUTE 66 chief operating officer.

ROUTE 66 Maps + Navigation 5.11 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.0 and up.
