2K displays – some manufacturers (Samsung, LG, Xiaomi) are quickly jumping at the chance to bundle such screens into their products while others (like Huawei) believe there’s no need for handset resolution to go to such extremes.

The case companies like Huawei make against 2K highlights the fact that the human eye finds it difficult to distinguish what comes over 300ppi.

But a detail like this won’t stop device makers from adopting 2K displays into their products, especially if the rigor of the market demands it.

Qualcomm, whose chipsets power a great deal of today’s flagship devices, claims that we should be expecting more 2K products to make their way onto the market soon.

Speaking to TrustedReviews, Qualcomm VP of Marketing, Tim McDonaugh pointed into the direction of China which is spurting out spec-driven handsets with the speed of light.

For the time being, we should expect to see most flagships this year arrive with a 2K, even if some will detach from the standard, like the HTC One M9.

From there, 2K displays might make their way into middle-range phones as the high-end trend migrates towards getting 4K onboard.

It's just an assumption, since McDonaugh was quite ambivalent on the topic of 4K specifying that the industry still has to figure out the form factor where users will benefit from 4K the most. But he did mention 4K is quickly navigating towards tablets.
