SEGA is reportedly planning a sequel to the highly-acclaimed “Phantasy Star Online,” but this time the game will be free to play.

Simply dubbed “Phantasy Star Online 2,” the MMORPG title will be launched this winter on Android and iOS platforms.

In addition, SEGA promised the game would be available for PC and PS Vita as well, both supporting cross-platform multiplayer. Unfortunately, it won’t be the same for Android and iOS versions.

The folks at PocketGamer have learned that the PC version will be available this summer, while PS Vita owners will be able to play “Phantasy Star Online 2” sometime in 2013.

According to SEGA, around 100,000 players will be able to participate in the game’s 24-hour closed beta, which is set for late April. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
