Can’t wait to get the official update from the ROM maker?

While users of the OnePlus One are still waiting for Cyanogen to release the latest version of its OS, which will be based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, we have a piece of good news for you. The new update should start hitting users of the phone on or before March 30, 2015.

You probably know that Google rolled out Android 5.1 a few days ago, and so far, only the Nexus bunch has been updated to the latest version, although Motorola announced it for its second-gen Moto X as well.

Now, thanks to the quick and dedicated people at xda-developers, the OnePlus One can also be updated to Android 5.1 via an unofficial ROM based on the sources of CyanogenMod 12.1.

User CraZY_BoY is taking credit for uploading the build, but before you jump to download anything, you have to take into consideration that the build is in an early phase of development, so you’re bound to bump into some issues with it.

The post mentions that you’ll probably notice the forced closing of settings while attempting to select and order tiles for the quick settings pull down, or the forced closing of the Alarm app. The text messaging app will also shut down when a text message is received.

So if you are not easily bothered, head straight to the xda-developers page and download the Android 5.1 build for the OnePlus One.
