One of the mobile phones that Android enthusiasts are certainly waiting for this year is the OnePlus One, which will be launched as the very first device specifically designed for the CyanogenMod platform.

There’s no specific info on when the handset will land on the market, but we do know now that it will be priced under $400 (€293), courtesy of info that OnePlus has posted on its Facebook and Google+ accounts.

“Priced under $500 doesn't mean $499. The OnePlus One will definitely be available for under $400,” the company’s Pete Lau said. Chances are that OnePlus will be aiming at a $350 (€256) price point, so as to put its phone in line with the Nexus 5, as phandroid notes.

For those out of the loop, we should note that OnePlus One is being developed from the ground up to fit the CyanogenMod software, a custom flavor of Android, which lacks the usual Google services, but adds a variety of enhancements on top of the official release.

In fact, the CM team has been working closely with OnePlus, so as to ensure that the upcoming phone is the perfect device for the platform, something that Oppo’s N1, which can also run CyanogenMod right from the start, was not.

For the time being, however, the two did not provide specifics on what the smartphone will have to offer in terms of hardware, though such info should emerge soon. Keep an eye on this space for updates.
