Windows Phone might not have been loaded on that many smartphones as of now, but a great deal of devices running under the OS are expected to arrive this year, from different vendors, and it seems that ODMs (Original Device Manufacturers) are also looking to grab a piece of this.

According to a recent article on DigiTimes, companies such as Quanta Computer, Wistron and Pegatron are expected to compete for getting Windows Phone 8 device production orders, sources from the supply chain allegedly claim.

Earlier this year Microsoft has announced that a great deal of handset vendors out there will release Windows Phone devices sooner or later, and that it will also offer its mobile platform for free to China- and India-based companies.

Thus, mobile phone makers such as Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, GiONEE and K-Touch, among others, are expected to board the Windows Phone train soon, and to release a variety of entry-level and mid-range smartphones running under Windows Phone 8.1.

In addition to the aforementioned ODMs, China-based BYD and Longcheer Holdings is also set to compete for receiving Windows Phone 8 smartphone orders, it seems.

Moreover, the aforementioned report claims that Compal Electronics has already received such orders from Nokia (which is part of Microsoft now).
