UK mobile phone carrier O2 has officially confirmed plans to add the Xperia Z1 Compact smartphone to its offering, soon after Sony made the device official at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately, the wireless carrier did not provide specific info on when the new device would be released on its network, though it did say that it would be coming soon.

Chances are that we’ll see the phone released before the end of the first quarter of this year, although it will be launched at Telstra in Australia only in April.

The new Xperia Z1 Compact comes with powerful hardware inside a small package, featuring only a 4.3-inch touchscreen, but powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.

The mobile phone also sports 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, and Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform loaded on top.
