Although it is planning to kill the Nokia X series of devices, Microsoft is still looking to expand the availability of the current such phones to more markets out there, and it appears that Nokia XL will arrive in China sooner rather than later.

A certain Nokia RM-1061 handset has received the necessary approvals in the country with support for China Mobile’s TD LTE network, and rumor has it that this will indeed be a new version of the aforementioned Nokia XL.

Should this pan out, we might see Nokia XL being launched as the first 4G LTE handset in the Nokia X series, as Nokiapoweruser notes.

Clearly, the phone was sent for certification before Microsoft’s executives decided to kill off the Nokia X series, though it remains to be seen whether it will actually land on shelves as an Android-based phone or not.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Microsoft has already announced plans to shift some Nokia X models to Windows Phone and to launch them as Lumia devices, and this handset could be one of the first to suffer the change.

However, no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now, and it remains to be seen how exactly things will turn out in the end. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
