14 DAY TRIAL // Nokia has just confirmed that it has ended support for Symbian and MeeGo mobile platforms beginning January 1, 2014. The Finnish company announced back in October that it would stop supporting both operating systems in early 2014, so the move doesn't really come as a surprise for Symbian/MeeGo users.
However, those who own Symbian/MeeGo smartphones will still be able to download applications and games through Nokia's Ovi Store, though developers are not allowed to publish new apps or updates anymore.
Developers who still have apps and games published in Ovi Store will continue to receive their payments as usual until the application store closes and their products will no longer be available for download.
These are surely dark times for Symbian/MeeGo users, but usually when something old disappears, something new always appears to take its place. Perhaps now is the time for Symbian fans to switch to other mobile platforms like Windows Phone, Android or iOS.
