Smartphones will be stuck on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread

It took Sony Ericsson two years to bring Xperia X10 software to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but the company announced that no more updates will be pushed in the future.

After putting Xperia X10 patience to test all these years with numerous delays for the Froyo and Gingerbread update, Sony Ericsson confirmed that the last update for Xperia X10 is Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, which was deployed a few months ago.

To remind our readers, Xperia X10 was delivered with Android 1.6 Donut at launch, but received an Android 2.1 Eclair update after several months.

However, Sony Ericsson never delivered a Froyo upgrade to Xperia X10 device, instead it skipped directly to Gingerbread, which was deployed in July 2011.

Although this is bad news for Xperia X10 owners, it doesn't come as a surprise, especially that the smartphone is available on the market since 2009.
