The new operating system will be unveiled later today
With just a few hours left until Google I/O 2014 is set to kick off, lots of info on the products that have yet to be announced continues to leak online. It’s only been a day since the first screenshots showing the so-called Android “L” emerged on the Internet and now it looks like we have the first indication of how the next version of the mobile platform will be named.
According to HTCFamily.ru Twitter account, the next version of Android will be called Lollipop. There’s also an image posted that shows the OS’s logo.
Obviously, no other details have been shared regarding Android Lollipop, but we already know that the new platform will be previewed later today by Google’s Head of Android, Sundar Pichai.
Although Lollipop will be officially announced today, it will not be available for download for Nexus owners, as Goggle has confirmed that the new iteration will only be released for the masses later this fall. This way, most handset manufacturers will have time to prepare updates for their products in time for the holiday.
New smartphones powered by Android Lollipop may also make their way on the market by the end of the year, other than the usual Nexus handset that Google launches along with a new version of Android.
