Samsung and Apple might be disputing smartphone leadership globally, but on the Asian continent we have another story unfolding.

Meizu and Xiaomi are two Chinese giants that compete head to head to get in costumers’ good graces in Asia. It hasn’t been long (July) since Xiaomi unveiled the Mi4, a flagship smartphone, which a few months later was counteracted by the Meizu MX4.

It appears that the Meizu MX4 has done quite well for itself, enough for Xiaomi to become worried. The latest rumors coming out of Asia now claim (via Giz China) that the device maker is hard at work developing a new handset that will hopefully take your mind off the MX4.

It seems like the new smartphone will be part of the Redmi family and sell for about $163 / €127. Meizu will not be sitting on the side bench doing nothing; on the contrary, the OEM is also gearing up to launch the MX4 Pro soon, so Xiaomi is probably right to be concerned.

Word on the street is that Xiaomi is so worried that we might end up seeing the Mi4's price get slashed.

Even though the MX4 doesn’t sell cheap (priced at $449 / €349), customers seem to fall in love with the handset’s nifty set of specifications, which include a 5.36-inch screen with 1920 x 1152 resolution, an octa-core MediaTek chip, and a 20MP camera. The ball is in your court, Xiaomi.
