Sony Xperia S made its debut on the market about a year ago, but the smartphone was shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform at launch.

However, the Japanese company promised the phone would receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade at some point and it delivered the update later last year.

Still, Xperia S is also eligible for a Jelly Bean update, which is expected to arrive within the next few weeks.

Today, the folks over at XperiaBlog have learned PTCRB has just certified a new firmware version 6.1.G.0.0 for Sony Xperia S.

Unfortunately, this is not the hotly-anticipated Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade that Sony Xperia S users are waiting, but a mere pre-Jelly Bean release or some kind of carrier-related update. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
