Last night, mobile phone maker Motorola kicked off a soak test for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform upgrade for the owners of Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini smartphones at Verizon.

The test was originally announced a few days ago, when the company started inviting users to join it, and the first update builds are already rolling out to the owners of these handsets, it seems.

Yesterday, Motorola sent out an email to all those who enrolled in the testing of the new firmware upgrade for their devices, informing them on the immediate availability of the update.

“Thanks for signing up for the Droid Maxx/Ultra/Mini software test. The software should be pushed to your phone later this evening,” said email from Motorola stated, according to Android Central.

At the moment, Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini handsets are running under the Android 4.4 KitKat platform release, but the new firmware update will bring the OS up to Android 4.4.2.

However, Motorola did not provide specific info on what the update will include, and it remains to be seen whether there will be additional enhancements included in it, compared to what the new OS flavor has brought on other smartphones out there.

Usually, these new platform releases are pushed out to all devices in a matter of days after the soak test kicks off, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
