Verizon Wireless was long rumored to plan the release of a new Motorola DROID smartphone before the end of the ongoing year, the DROID 4, yet it seems that the carrier might have delayed it to 2012.

Recently leaked documents show that Motorola DROID 4 might have been delayed to February next year, though no specific info on what caused the push back emerged.

A recent report from Droid-life also suggests that the upcoming dual-core handset will land on Verizon’s LTE network only next year.

Some suggest that February 2nd is now the targeted release date, though confirmation on this is still pending.

Chances are that Motorola and Verizon plan on making a series of changes to the handset itself, in an attempt to make it better than it was. Hopefully, they will also load it with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
