The tests are being performed in Brazil at the moment

Android 5.1 was rolled out a few weeks ago, but so far only some Nexus and Google Play Edition devices have been updated to the new build.

As in the case of Android 5.0, Motorola was one of the first device makers to announce it was picking up the update for its phones, starting with the second-gen Moto X. And a soak test for the device has already been initiated.

But unlike in the case of the second-gen Moto X, fate wasn't so smiling on the original device. The phone is powered by the outdated Snapdragon S4 Pro chip and Motorola needed to heavily tweak the update to accommodate it on the device.

However, the good news is that Motorola moved a lot faster with the new Android 5.1 update, and today we get word that a new soak test has begun in Brazil for the original Moto X (as seen at STJS Gadgets).

The new build brings along usability and stability enhancements, adding new features to quick settings or providing better control notifications and interrupts.

If everything goes smoothly with the update, we should see it roll out for all first-gen Moto X devices in May. Motorola is committed to offering more updates for the Moto X (2013) before the end of 2015, so if Google launches Android 5.1.1, we will probably see that one implemented on it too.
