Motorola has just released a new maintenance update for the ATRIX 4G. Unfortunately, this is not the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade that everyone expects.

In fact, Motorola Mobility has made it clear that the ATRIX 4G will never receive an official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, so those who still own the device might want to upgrade to a newer smartphone.

Anyway, the folks over at AndroidPolice have just learned that the US-based handset maker has announced the immediate availability of a new Android 2.3.6 software update for Motorola ATRIX 4G.

Firmware version 4.5.145.MB860.ATT.en.US includes improvements in the GPS Location accuracy and some security enhancements:

- improved accuracy in Google Maps and Google Navigation; - updated to latest Google security patches.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air), so ATRIX 4G owners might want to check for it by going to Settings / About phone / System updates.
