The team isn't rejecting the idea of a WP version of the title

Owners of Windows Phone devices might get a taste of Minecraft: Pocket Edition in the not too distant future, should the developers behind the game decide to start working on a port, although nothing is being prepared on the matter at the moment.

In a recent post on Reddit, a developer named Jeb_, one of the people behind the popular game, explained why the title hasn’t arrived on Microsoft’s mobile platform as of now. He also said that the idea of porting the game to Windows Phone wasn't being rejected.

“Currently the problem is that Windows Phone uses a different API for rendering (DirectX vs OpenGL), and the Minecraft code has bad separation between the game logic and rendering. We are not saying ‘no’, but it’s currently not being worked on, as it’s a big project to fix,” he said.

It still remains to be seen whether the team will decide to make a step towards launching a Windows Phone version of the game sooner rather than later. Most probably, popular demand will help them decide, as wp7connect notes in a recent post.
