14 DAY TRIAL // There are less than two weeks until IFA 2014 is set to kick off, and Windows Phone fans are probably hyped by Microsoft’s scheduled event which is supposed to unveil new smartphones.
Nokia Lumia 730 and probably Lumia 830 will be the main stars at Microsoft’s IFA event, but the Redmond-based company is expected to run another press conference sometime at the end of the month.
During the yet unconfirmed event, Microsoft is likely to unveil the next version of Windows Phone, which is supposed to run on both smartphones and tablets.
Dubbed Windows Threshold, the new version of the operating system is rumored to arrive in early 2015, Zdnet’s Mary Joe Foley reports. According to her, Microsoft plans to offer incremental updates to Windows Phone users, which will be released on the regular schedule.
This process will replace the current trend where Microsoft releases major OS updates for Windows Phone, in an attempt to close the gap between WP and other operating systems on the market (Android, iOS).
These smaller updates for the next version of Windows Phone will include new features, improvements and bug fixes. This means that a Windows Phone 10, 11 or 12 will be out of the question, at least for a while.
