Over the past several weeks, we’ve learned that Microsoft has been planning on killing a variety of Nokia products in the next months, and it seems that one of them will be shut down as soon as August.

To be more precise, Microsoft has started to inform developers that the Nokia Remote Device Access program will be shut down on August 12.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the service was meant to provide developers with the possibility to test their applications on a variety of devices without actually owning them.

The program was designed for application builders targeting Series 40, Asha, Nokia X, and Lumia handsets and, as WMPoweruser notes, might be shut down following the various job cuts that Microsoft is currently planning.

As a refresher, Microsoft revealed roughly two weeks ago that around 12,500 people that were transferred to it from the Nokia Devices and Services division will be given the pink slip. Overall, the company will cut 18,000 jobs.

While killing the Nokia Remote Device Access Program, Microsoft is recommending the use of the Windows Phone Emulator for Windows Phone 8 for the testing of applications, which means that devs targeting non-Lumia devices are being left out of this.
