Today, Microsoft made available for download through the Windows Phone Store a new enterprise application aimed at its Windows Phone 8 users, namely Lync 2013.

The app was promised a while ago, but Microsoft took its time before making it generally available, most probably in an attempt to ensure that it can deliver the expected experience.

Lync 2013 enables users to easily connect with colleagues straight from their Windows Phone 8 handset, while also offering fast access to Lync Meetings, and the possibility to forward calls to an Enterprise Voice (Lync ID) number.

The app comes with transport layer security (TLS) and perimeter/internal network protection without requiring a VPN, for increased security, Microsoft notes.

The app is available on this page in the Windows Phone Store, and requires a Lync account, as well as Lync Server connectivity.
