Chinese mobile phone maker Meizu might launch some interesting new handsets this year, including a smartphone that would run under the Ubuntu platform, rumor has it.

No official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now, but mydrivers.com claims that the vendor will indeed make the move, and that it will also include a fingerprint sensor on the upcoming smartphone.

As GizChina notes, Meizu MX3, the latest flagship handset from the company, can easily run Ubuntu, which suggests that the rumor has a chance of proving real.

As for the fingerprint sensor, it would certainly not come as a surprise if it was included in the device, given that other vendors have also started to adopt the technology, and that Meizu is gearing up for an international launch.

However, no confirmation on this has been provided as of now, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
