Google is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new flavor of its Gmail for Android application, and an .apk file of the upcoming software update has already emerged online.

The guys over at Android Police managed to play with it for a bit, and they note some appealing changes set to arrive on Android devices soon.

Among them, we can count the addition of pinch-to-zoom capabilities on individual messages, along with the possibility to delete or archive through simple swipes on the screen.

The .apk shows that the new Gmail for Android will arrive on devices as version 4.2, and all users with an Android 4.0 or newer rooted device interested in giving it a try can now do so.

You can learn more on what the upcoming app has to offer through the video embedded above.
