For once, nothing bad prompted the staff change

We're not strangers to abrupt and not so abrupt changes in company leaderships, but pretty often it's something bad that determines the departure or sacking of this or that executive officer. This once, at least, LG doesn't have that kind of motivation.

The South Korean company has published a press release in which it reveals the change in leadership for the mobile division.

Until now, Dr. Jong-seok Park was the President and CEO of the LG Mobile Communication Company.

He is going to step aside, though, in favor of Juno Cho, the current President of LG Corp., LG Electronics’ holding company, who already has experience in that area thanks to being the chief of LG’s mobile business strategy and sales and marketing for North America between 2000 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jong-seok Park will be moving into the newly created position of Chief Technology Advisor.

Considering the good smartphone sales of the past quarter (Q3 2014), maybe the overall company possibly hopes that Dr. Jong-seok Park's apparent ability to boost sales will extend to other branches of the business (17 million smartphones were shipped, 16% more than in Q2).

A few other staff changes are taking place, pretty much all of them promotions. Juno Cho will assume the Mobile headship in December, with the promotions coming into effect on January 1, 2015.
