LG G4 is the first in line to get its bootloader unlocked

If you’re a developer or just an Android tinkerer who happens to like LG products, you should be happy to know that LG has announced it will start unlocking bootloaders for certain LG smartphones.

The Korean device maker promised a bootloader unlock tool back in 2014, around the time the G3 saw the light of day.

Anyway, the first phone from the company’s portfolio to get the booloader unlocking treatment, is the European version of LG’s current flagship, the G4.

So if you are the owner of the G4 (H815 model), you are invited to visit LG’s developer page and go through the unlocking process. You’ll end up opening wide your bootloader, but bear in mind your device warranty will become void and null.

LG also warns that, by unlocking the bootloader on our device, certain functions on your phone will be disabled (DRM protection on the phone will become untrusted) and that your device might become vulnerable.

And this is just the beginning because LG says it will add more models to the program, so we should probably expect to see the G3 offered a seat in the group as well.

As for older LG smartphones, they are pretty well taken care of by the developer community.
