The availability of kernel source signals the near release of the update

A few weeks back, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has officially confirmed its plans for the Android 4.4 KitKat software update roll out, and it appears that it is now getting ready for the release of the upgrade to T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note 3 too.

In preparation of this move, the handset vendor has made available for download the source code for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat build for this device, via its Open Source website. It is listed there as build number N900TUVUCNB4 (the phone landed at T-Mobile as model version N900T, as TmoNews notes).

Unfortunately, an official announcement on the availability of the firmware for end-users hasn’t been provided as of now, though it should not be too long before the deployment process kicks off.

In fact, we should note that KitKat has already been pushed to Galaxy Note 3 on the networks of other wireless carriers in the United States, proving that Samsung is determined to make it available for all users in the not too distant future.

The availability of the kernel code (the file name is SM-N900T_NA_KK_Opensource.zip) is also meant to provide developers with the possibility to start building custom software specifically designed for this device model.

For end-users, however, the file doesn’t mean too much, as they will have to wait for the actual update to start arriving on their smartphones. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
