Finnish startup Jolla has made the source code for the browser included in the Sailfish OS available for download, making it the first application from the platform to be opened for the developer community.

As TNW notes, those interested in grabbing the code for the Sailfish OS browser will have to head over to GitHub for that. Moreover, it appears that Jolla welcomes anyone who wants to contribute to patching issues in the application and adding enhancements to it.

The Sailfish OS browser was built based on Mozilla’s open source Gecko browser engine, and Jolla is looking to receive official support from Mozilla for it, this being one of the reasons for which it has released the source code.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the first Jolla smartphone was made available in November last year, and that it has already landed in various European countries, via Jolla’s own website.
