An official Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Nexus S by Samsung smartphone is still a few weeks away, but it seems that some enthusiasts already managed to bring the new OS flavor to the older device.

Only Sprint's Nexus S 4G smartphone enjoys it at the moment, but things are reportedly encouraging, and the unofficial port might arrive on devices well before the official release is made available.

The port is based on the new Android SDK that Google made available soon after the unveiling of Ice Cream Sandwich.

The same as with any similar ports, things still require a lot of work, and it might take a while before things are indeed usable. However, the first steps in this direction were already made, and progress might soon be announced, so stay tuned for more on this.
