Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei has just announced the availability of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the IDEOS X5.

Initially slated for an “end of November” release, the update was pushed back one month for unknown reasons. Anyway, those who have not rooted their IDEOS X5 smartphone yet can download the 192MB file via Huawei’s site.

However, the handset maker warns Huawei IDEOS X5 owners who rooted their devices that they will have troubles installing the official Gingerbread update that has just gone live.

Aside from bringing the phone’s firmware version to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the update adds lots of performance and stability improvements, as well as new features and bug fixes.

Huawei does not offer additional guidance on how to install the update, so simply download the file and follow the step-by-step on-screen instructions.
