Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei has officially confirmed on Weibo plans to make the Android 4.4 KitKat platform available for its Huawei Ascend P6 smartphone in January next year.

At the moment, the smartphone runs under the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, but it appears that Huawei will be skipping Android 4.3 all together and head straight for the latest version of the platform.

As PhoneArena notes, Huawei Ascend P6 was launched as the thinnest Android device in the world, measuring only 6.18mm. The smartphone features a 4.7-inch touchscreen.

Unfortunately, Huawei was not specific on whether the International version of the mobile phone would be receiving the KitKat update in January too, the same as the Chinese model. Hopefully, users in other markets won’t have to wait longer for it, but stay tuned for more on this.
