Today, Huawei Ascend Mate 2, the largest new smartphone coming from the Chinese mobile phone maker, has received the necessary approvals from the FCC, thus moving one step closer to becoming officially available for purchase in the United States.

We already knew that the phone would be released in this country, since Huawei has confirmed intentions on the matter recently, but no specific info on when that might happen has been provided as of now.

At the FCC, the new device was spotted with LTE bands 2, 4, 5 and 17, which would make it compatible with the networks of wireless carriers AT&T and T-Mobile.

However, according to PhoneArena, it is unlikely that Huawei Ascend Mate 2 will arrive on shelves at any of the two wireless carriers.

The handset was unveiled with a 6.1-inch 720p IPS screen, as well as with a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor packed inside. Moreover, it comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

On the back, the phone features a 13-megapixel camera, paired with a 5MP front camera. The phone was launched with a 4050 mAh battery and with Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top.
