You can share your iCloud contacts on any Android device

I'm an Apple user, but I'm curious about how other operating systems behave as well. That's why I also experiment with Android, Linux and Windows on certain issues, and now I want to have all my contacts in the same place, so let’s see how that can be achieved.

For my Contacts I use iCloud, not the "universal" Google Contacts. The usual recommendation is to export them as a vCard file from iCloud and to import it into Gmail, but this means I will lose all my contact photos and I wouldn't want this to happen. I like my contact photos.

I needed a solution to sync my iCloud contacts on my Android device. After some research, it has proven to be an easy task because iCloud uses the CardDAV protocol.

So, install the CardDav Sync (freeware) app from Google App Store and open it.

Add a CardDAV account:

code
Server: contacts.icloud.com
Use SSL
Username: your iCloud email address
Password: your iCloud password
Give a name to this account (ex: iCloud) and go to Edit Account Settings to configure it.

The default option is to only download Contacts, not to sync (One way Sync).

If you activate Enforce synchrony, any modification made on your Android contacts will be pushed to iCloud.

Now, if you want to see your iCloud contacts, go to Contacts.app Settings – Contact to display and select your new CardDav account.

And that’s about it!
