It involves installation of third-party software

Some of you who have already received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on their Nexus 5 or 4 smartphone already know that Google has skipped the Silent Mode from this version of the OS.

The issue will most certainly affect other smartphones running Lollipop as well, but for the time being, Google is the only company that released the update for its products.

Anyway, those who upgraded to Lollipop can only use the Vibrate only mode or the Ring mode. You can also use another nifty feature called Priority mode where you can tell your phone between which hours not to disturb you with notifications and calls.

If you’re still missing the Silent Mode, you should know there’s a way that you can make it available on your smartphone, even if you have Android 5.0 Lollipop installed.

This involves downloading an application called Power Toggles from the Google Play Store. The application is available for free and doesn’t require any premium fees.

All you need to do after installing the application is head to the Settings menu within Power Toggles and select Toggle settings. Scroll down to Volume Toggle, click on it and choose Enabled modes. You will then notice that you have four modes that you can enable: Mute, Vibrate, Ring and Ring & Vibrate.

They will all show as a widget bar on your home screen, and every time you want to switch to Silent Mode you will be able to do so with a touch of a button, at least until Google puts the feature back into Android.
