Hot on the heels of Samsung’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code release for the Galaxy S II, HTC dropped its own ICS kernel source for some of its smartphones.

Starting today, developers who plan on creating new customized ROMs or tweak the existent ones will be able to download the ICS kernel source for HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE and HTC Vivid.

HTC already started rolling out the Android 4.0 for the Sensation and Sensation XE, but the deployment is only available in some regions. AT&T is also preparing to deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich update in the following weeks.

Users already reported they have been able to manually push an official Android 4.0 update for their HTC Vivid devices using a dialer trick. However, this might not be the final version of the update.
