In our Android 5.0 Roadmap: When Is Your Smartphone Getting Lollipop? piece we were telling you that HTC had promised to provide the update for its HTC One (M8).

Originally, January 3 was the date when every owner of the HTC flagship hoped to be getting the bump. However, the company had to postpone things.

Well, it seems that today the HTC One (M8) Developer Edition is finally receiving the new build (as seen at Phone Arena). Ok, it’s not the mainstream HTC One (M8), but this can only mean that we’re getting closer and closer to a mass release.

The HTC One (M8) Developer Edition is equipped with an unlocked SIM and bootloader, which allows the installation of custom ROMs.

The phone sells for $699 / €593 in the US and comes devoid of warranty.

Anyway, HTC One (M8) owners can expect to receive a surprise on their phones any time now. For the Developer Edition, the Android 5.0 build weighs nearly 585MB and bundles the Lollipop UI along with improved privacy options.

In the meanwhile, HTC is gearing up to introduce its next flagship Hima, which will probably arrive in March at MWC 2015 and will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
