14 DAY TRIAL // Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is reportedly moving to new component suppliers, leaving the South Korean giant Samsung Electronics out of its plans.
The company has reportedly switched to OmniVision and Sony for orders of CMOS image sensors, while getting AMOLED screens from AU Optronics (AUO).
However, the company is still getting AMOLED shipments from the South Korean manufacturer, mainly due to concerns of yield rates and production volume at AUO, DigiTimes notes.
Additionally, HTC is purchasing Super LCD panels for mid-range smartphones from Sony since 2012, it seems.
According to the news site, HTC’s decision to contact new suppliers reflects Apple’s move on the matter, which involves a departure from Samsung.
HTC has had some bad quarters lately, and its choice might be driven by a decision to cut production costs as well, although no official word on the matter has come from the company as of yet.
