The exact date when this will happen remains unknown

Recently, we have told you that Samsung’s flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 4, will get Android 5.0.1 Lollipop directly, while the Galaxy Note 3 should be officially updated in early 2015 (although the Beta ROM for Lollipop is already available).

But what about the Samsung Galaxy Note 2? Not many of us had hopes that this 2012 device would receive Lollipop 5.0 until Samsung Finland surprised us with a piece of information we didn’t expect.

According to them, the aging Galaxy Note 2 will be receiving the update at some point, although we’re not given an exact date for when that’s supposed to happen (as seen at GSM Arena).

The Galaxy Note 2 is currently two years and 3 months old and most manufacturers don’t usually bother to push out software updates for devices that old. However, it appears the Galaxy Note 2 will get special treatment, for one reason or another.

This is extremely good news for those of you who are still holding on to the smartphone. Hopefully, the information turns out to be true and Samsung will begin rolling the update for the aging device as soon as possible.

Still, for the time being, the Korean tech giant has yet to provide the new Lollipop build for its current flagship the Note 4, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
